Contractors License Requirements
Arizona
Basically, you need a license to bid on any job over $750 in Arizona.
Arizona issues separate licenses for commercial and residential work for each particular trade or construction field. Licenses are good for two years. To apply for either license, contact:
Arizona Registrar of Contractors
1700 W. Washington St.
Suite 105
Phoenix, AZ 85007-2812
(602) 542-1525; 877-692-9762 Toll Free

You must pass a business management exam within six months from when you apply for it. After that you'll have one year to apply for your license.
Freedom offers a Home Study course, that covers all required subjects and will prepare you for the state exam. Click here for course details.
To apply for the exam, contact:
PSI Examination Services

For a list of the construction trades you can be licensed in, years of experience you need, and whether you have to pass a trade exam for the license, click here.
All experience claims must be verifiable by a qualified and responsible person, such as a homeowner, an employer, a fellow employee, other jouneyman, a contractor, a union representative, building inspector, an architect or an engineer. The person verifying your claim must have first-hand knowledge of your experience, that is he or she must have observed the work you have done.
Contracting experince will also be considered from currently licensed Arizona Contractors, formerly licensed AZ Contractors and the official personnel listed on the Board records for an Arizona Contractors License.
